Swedish Massage is the most common and most popular type of massage. The main focus of the Swedish Massage is Relaxation, stress reduction, and increased circulation and range of motion.
The therapist will use many different types of techniques during this relaxing one hour session. These techniques include Effleurage which are long flowing and connected strokes to relax contracted muscles, petrissage which can be best described as "kneading dough". This technique helps to pump out lactic acid from the muscles. The therapist may also employ lifting and rolling techniques which break up adhesions in the myofascia, which is the tissue that connects muscles to bone and skin. The therapist will generally end the massage with percussion, which is rythmic tapping or pounding movements also called tapotement which leave the client refreshed and invigorated ready to take on the day.
